The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office has a Sheriff’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. This committee is made up of non-management employees from diverse backgrounds and work assignments. The current committee has identified the following focus initiatives for the 2020-2022 term:
- Recruitment and retention
- Employee engagement, inclusion and belonging for all staff
- Work/life balance for all employees, especially working parents and those returning from leave
- Employee/community engagement with the public we serve
- DEI education for staff to include topics such as race, gender, mental health and wellness, disabilities (physical, functional and intellectual) with a special emphasis to reduce stigma around these topics and normalize uncomfortable conversations
